I dont know!!

by Daniel
(Manila, Philippines)

I'm not really sure if I have pharyngitis or laryngitis or esophagitis or whatever it is...

All I know is that my throat is itching and I feel a little tightness in my chest and my real concern is I cannot fully manipulate my voice!

I can still sing but whenever I try to reach high notes (using Headvoice or Artificial Voice) my voice breaks...

How long has this been going on?

Hi Daniel,

Here is my opinion, as a long-time singer, not a physician....

If this feeling in your throat is quite new, wait a week or so. Don't sing. Let the virus run its course. Drink lots of water. Eat well. Get some rest. See if it clears up on its own.

But if your throat has been itchy and unresponsive for more than 2 weeks, see a throat doctor about it. Singing when your vocal cords are swollen is only going to make things worse. And there may be other things going on in your body that need attention.

My best,
Barbara Lewis
