Singing is good for the soul!
by: Barbara Lewis

Hi Boo,

Thank you for your response to my Singing After Forty article. I relate to your strong desire to sing. I've been a professional singer for many, many years, and I still wake up each day eager to sing.

It's a wonderful emotional outlet and a great means of communication. I hope you will keep moving ahead with your singing. If you are connected to a church, you might be able to sing at church activities as a way of getting started. There may also be "open-mike nights" in a pub or club near your area.

Barring that, you could consider having a house concert at your own home where you will sing for a few supportive people to get practice in singing in front of others.

All these things can help to build your confidence if you take it step by step. Try not to sing for very critical friends or family members, at this point. You need to "get your singing legs" before taking very much unfocused criticism.

I wish you many years of happy singing!
My best,
Barbara Lewis
